If this is Austin, I still love you…
We took a trip to Austin to visit my brother and it was an experience!
Austin is weird. I expected a little more yeehaw and for everything to be covered in barbeque sauce, but instead I found a vibrant city with more to offer than just good ribs.
We didn’t have much time to spend, but we tried to see what we could in the time we had.
Austin Capitol
They say “Everything’s bigger in Texas!” and their state capitol is no exception! We spent about an hour and a half wandering around its many rooms. Austin’s Capitol building has sweet architecture and a pretty rich history – plus, it was free! It’s also nice to walk around the Capitol’s grounds and see the statues they have scattered around.
Shops on Congress
We started walking down Congress to explore the city more! There are lots of little shops that you can go in and lots of restaurants and food trucks that give out free smells to get your stomach rumbling. We stopped into a music shop where I couldn’t help but try out a uke painted like Starry Starry Night. When walking around downtown Austin, you can also spot really cool street art and murals.
My only complaint – Downtown Austin has a lot of very aggressive homeless people. We even had one of them threaten to shoot us when we told him we didn’t have any change.
Stubbs
We couldn’t leave Texas without getting some bomb barbeque! Stubbs has everything: delicious food, cool atmosphere, live music, and a long history with Dolly Parton?
