Hello Seattle!
When I think Seattle, I think of rainstorms, Richard Sherman, and Nirvana. I knew that Seattle had much more to offer and I had to find out what. As Seattle has been on my bucket list for many years, I was stoked to find out that some of our good friends were moving there. We came to visit them as soon as we could.
Seattle is pushed up against the Puget Sound and surrounded by big, leafy trees. Its overcast skies make for good pictures and running around town.
The Underground Tour
We started off in Pioneer Square for The Underground Tour. This is probably my favorite thing we did while in the city. Seattle has a rich (and slightly embarrassing) history. The Underground Tour is a hilarious trip through the story of how Seattle was burnt to a crisp by a reckless employee, rebuilt on stilts by brothel money, and more. They’ll take you down below the city to explore the original streets of Seattle. It’s really incredible. The tour guides are great and they’ll keep you giggling through the entire experience.
Pike’s Place Market
We couldn’t leave Seattle without visiting the famous Pike’s Place Market. Pike’s is a bustling market with tons of vendors, delicious food, and music throughout the streets. We were sure to find the flying fish and picked up some homemade doughnuts. Other must-sees in Pike’s Place Market are Beecher’s cheese shop – free samples – and the gum wall. The gum wall, while disgusting, makes for great pictures. Make sure that you bring a pack of bazooka so that you can leave your contribution!
MoPOP
The Museum of Pop Culture is amazing! It takes you through exhibits about music, TV, and film and is a great place for the whole family. I was especially impressed by the Nirvana exhibit and the horror film exhibit. We spent a good chunk of the day in the museum. This is a great place if you are visiting Seattle with kids and you are looking for a place that has hours of entertainment.
Space Needle
The Space Needle was under construction while we were there, but the surrounding area is really cool if you are just wanting to visit the outside. There are fountains, statues, and vendors surrounding the Space Needle and lots to experience.
