Understanding Your Event Competition
Every event is unique and has it’s own offering, but uniqueness alone isn’t enough to “eliminate” competition. With a plethora of events for attendees to choose from, you may have more competition than you realize. Today I’m going to be focusing on what makes your event “not unique”. This article will help you understand who your competition really is, the importance of planning with your competition in mind, and how to combat some outside factors you didn’t even know you were competing with. Let’s start with an analogy from the business world. In the book Zero to One by Peter Thiel, Thiel gives the analogy of someone wanting to open a British…

Hello Seattle!
When I think Seattle, I think of rainstorms, Richard Sherman, and Nirvana. I knew that Seattle had much more to offer and I had to find out what. As Seattle has been on my bucket list for many years, I was stoked to find out that some of our good friends were moving there. We came to visit them as soon as we could. Seattle is pushed up against the Puget Sound and surrounded by big, leafy trees. Its overcast skies make for good pictures and running around town. The Underground Tour We started off in Pioneer Square for The Underground Tour. This is probably my favorite thing we did…

Lessons Learned from a Day of Unplugging
I’m a big fan of experiences, but I have to admit that sometimes I don’t enjoy them to the full extent. A lot of times my experiences are clouded by constant interruptions from notifications, pulling my attention away into my screen. Sometimes, I get pulled in so deep that the experiences don’t happen at all. Some nights I waste my time in front of my television WHILE scrolling through my phone at the same time (as if seven episodes of Gilmore Girls aren’t enough mental stimulation). My point is, we all have a hard time unplugging. It’s amazing to see what happens when you unplug for a day. Allow me…

Summer season will soon be upon us and celebrations are in their planning stages as event organizers are suiting up and trying on their many, many hats. Many event makers get so caught up in the massive amount of things on their to do list that they often forget to take a moment to ask a few fundamental questions before planning their event. Here are 3 questions to take you back to the basics and to help you create your best event yet: 1) What sets my event apart? Keep your competition in mind. For example, if you are an Italian Festival, you are not just competing with other Italian…

If this is Austin, I still love you…
We took a trip to Austin to visit my brother and it was an experience! Austin is weird. I expected a little more yeehaw and for everything to be covered in barbeque sauce, but instead I found a vibrant city with more to offer than just good ribs. We didn’t have much time to spend, but we tried to see what we could in the time we had. Austin Capitol They say “Everything’s bigger in Texas!” and their state capitol is no exception! We spent about an hour and a half wandering around its many rooms. Austin’s Capitol building has sweet architecture and a pretty rich history – plus, it…

Better Volunteers for Your Event
As Director of Client Success at SpinGo, I get to work with many talented event makers as they prepare for their events. We talk through better ways to manage vendors, setting up clear event schedules, creating urgency for ticket sales, and beyond. However, there is one portion of event planning that always seems to get put on the back burner: Volunteers. It can be hard to focus on getting great volunteers while you have a million other things on your plate, but volunteers are one of the first things attendees encounter at your event. The fact is, volunteers can make or break your event. Here are some things that I suggest to help…

The Ultimate Disneyland Packing List
We are in the single digits! Only 4 days until we leave for another adventure at Disneyland! For those of you that know my husband Brian and I, you know that we are some of the biggest Disnerds around. We try to go to the park as often as we can and we’ve become pretty good at handling 18 hours of Disneyland fun each day. One thing I’ve learned is that to have a magical day, you’ve got to pack a magical suitcase with all the essentials Today, I’ll be going through what I pack for a trip to Disneyland. What I Bring into the Park 1. Small Backpack…

What To Do With A Day in San Francisco
Our adventure in San Francisco was a success! We spent the day in San Francisco to see what the city had to offer. What did we find? Keep reading to find out! San Francisco is spectacular! I fell in love with that foggy city after spending only a day with it. I keep telling my husband I want to move there. We arrived at the San Francisco airport around 7:30am. It was pretty empty and quiet at that time – an awesome, stress-free start to our trip. We hopped on the BART from the San Fran airport and took a 30 minute ride to the Embarcadero stop. We headed towards…

The Joys of Disneyland Without Kids
It’s an understatement to say my husband and I LOVE Disneyland. We don’t live in California, but still plan several trips to the park throughout the year. There’s no better feeling than walking through the gate, passing under the golden words of Walt, and into Main Street U.S.A. We bask in our Disnerdiness, grab a churro, and play all day long. My husband and I don’t have kids yet so we get a lot of questions when we tell people that we go to Disneyland multiple times a year… by ourselves: 1. Disneyland is for kids. Isn’t it weird for two grown a$$ adults to go alone? (Usually with a…
