Can’t Live Without – Postpartum Essentials

As I’ve said many times, I underestimated how hard postpartum would be. So I am sharing a few things that were absolute lifesavers for me while I was going through that painful time.

Hands free pumping bra

This helps your pump to stay in place and keeps your hands free to hold your baby, phone, curling iron, etc. I bought one off Amazon (Handsfree pumping bra; $19.99) and it totally changed my pumping game. You can take the mobility one step further by getting a portable pump (Momcozy pump; $59.99)

Comfier underwear

They’ll give you super sexy mesh underwear at the hospital, but if you want to feel slightly more stylish and more comfortable, I recommend getting a pack of these super comfy, high waisted underwear (High waisted underwear; $24.99). They fit better under your clothes and have a bit more coverage to them. They may not make you feel sexy, but at least you won’t look like you’re wearing an apple sack.

“Down there” care

They’ll give you a bunch of stuff from the hospital – take as much of it home as you can. If you had a vaginal birth, you’ll need to stock up on things to help yourself heal. These things include various sizes of pads (Jumbo to liners) for all phases of your bleeding, a peri-bottle (usually provided by the hospital), witch hazel pads, and sitz bath packets.

Water bottle

Set a goal to drink X number of bottles per day. The more you can hydrate, the faster your body will heal. I like my Hydroflask (Hydroflask; $39.95) because it keeps my water cold! I have a weird OCD when it comes to food and drinks being a certain temperature. If you are not breastfeeding, add some lemon to help you fight swelling and bloating.

Harem pants

Channel your inner 80’s child and pick up some comfy harem pants (Harem Pants; $17.99)! I wore these on my way home from the hospital and throughout the first few weeks I was home. They are great because they are comfortable, not restricting, and provide full coverage.

The road to recovery is tough, but these things can make it a little easier. Hang in there, mama!
